    Get to know a different side of ancient Rome on this tour. Visit some of the underground churches and Catacombs which were built to honour the dead. This is a small group tour and the limited numbers make for an intimate experience and ensure everyone has a chance to interact with the guide.

    This fascinating tour of Rome's original Catacombs provides an interesting insight into the role that they played during the times of religious persecution. Travel to the outskirts of Rome to enjoy a short stroll along the Ancient Appian Way, once the major road to Rome. Whilst here visit the Catacombs of San Sebastiano. Return to Rome and visit the gruesome and bizarre art created out of the bones of dead monks.

    Meeting Point

    Outside colosseum underground station by the newsagent green kiosk.
    Please report at the meeting point 15 minutes before the start time. This is mandatory to allow time for pre-departure briefing.

    Ending Point

    The tour ends at St Clemente Church


    You will be picked up from cafe on the right as you enter the Colosseum underground metropolitan station. You will travel in an air-conditioned vehicle accompanied by an English-speaking guide. On this tour you will visit:

    Catacombs of Rome: The catacombs were the ancient underground cemeteries used by the Christian and Jewish communities to bury their dead and celebrate the funeral rites and the anniversaries of the martyrs.

    The Appian Way: Considered to be the queen of long roads, the Appian Way is a symbol of the Republic, bringing order to Italy and peace and freedom to its people.

    Church of St. Clement's: The medieval church was built over the remains of a 4th century basilica which at its turn covers older buildings from the time of the emperor Nero.

    The tour finishes at St Clemente Church.

    Please call the local activity operator anytime between 9:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Saturday, atleast a day prior to the start of the tour to confirm the departure details.

    Your tour guide will be holding a sign with the local activity operator’s name written on it.

    Please arrive at the pick up location at least 10 minutes prior to the start time.

    Entrance fee are not included and to be paid locally.

    This is a small group tour and operates with a maximum 7 passengers per minivan.Children must be accompanied by an adult. Infant seats are available on special request if advised at the time of booking.

    • Francesca (spelling) was the best tour guide we had in Rome. She was knowledgeable and excited to show us around. The group was far too large at the catacombs. It was 40 people or so. That woman was not interested in giving a quality tour. She was knowledgeable but very short tempered
