Leave the bustle of the city and escape to the glorious Tuscan countryside on this delightful awayday.
The tour focuses on the famous Val D’Orcia region with its quaint hill-towns and lush vineyards. Visit the ancient Etruscan town of Montepulciano and see the Duomo, the main square and Punch’s Tower.
Stop at the Montalciano vineyards where Italy’s best wine is produced. Enjoy glorious views before heading to Sant’Antimo Abbey, where, with luck, you may hear the monks perform Gregorian chants in the way they have done for centuries.
Enjoy a gourmet lunch and wine-tasting in a beautiful Tuscan vineyard before heading to Pienza, planned by the 15th century Pope Pius II as a “utopian village”. You’ll have free time to enjoy this lovely place, created as an expression of Pope Pius’s humanist ideals.
As you enjoy the mellow stone buildings and winding streets don’t forget to sample Pienza’s delicious pecorino cheese from one of the many artisan food stores around the town.

To join the Taste Of Tuscany Tour From Rome you should make your way to the center of the square “Piazza del Popolo” (Metro Line A – Flaminio). The meeting point is the fountain with the lions and obelisk. Please arrive at the meeting point 15 minutes before departure. An expert English-speaking guide will accompany you on the tour and head-sets will be provided where necessary.
You will board a comfortable air-conditioned bus and by mid-morning you will be in the ancient Etruscan town of Montepulciano. You’ll tour the town’s most important sights from the exposed brick Duomo and the main square to Punch’s Tower where Punch (without Judy) strikes his bell from the clock tower every hour. You’ll see ancient Etruscan wells and venture deep into medieval wine cellars still used today.
Your next stop is at the vineyards of Montalciano. This is where Italy’s best wine, Brunello di Montalcino, is produced. Admire the views over some of Tuscany’s loveliest vineyards before heading to Sant’Antimo Abbey where there is a chance you may hear the monks singing beautiful plainsong chants.
You will then drive out of town to a beautiful Tuscan vineyard where you will start lunch with a professionally guided wine tasting of three locally produced, world-famous wines including a Brunello di Montalcino. Wine tastings will be accompanied by bruschetta and over our three-course lunch you can try three more types of wine along with a spread of cold cuts and local specialties, many of which have been grown and prepared just outside.
Back on the bus your guide will prepare you for the next stop – Pienza. You will hear how this World Heritage site was conceived by Pope Pius II as a “utopian village” and get information on sites you may want to visit, such as the two Renaissance palaces and the beautiful Duomo.
Pienza is a small town so the group will split up here and you can take some time to wander alone, enjoying ancient architecture and views of the rolling countryside or just getting lost among the winding streets. Whatever you choose to do with your time, be sure to sample Pienza’s most important product pecorino cheese in one of the many artisan food stores around the town.
With full bellies and bags packed with wine, cheese and pici pasta, we’ll meet back at the bus for a comfortable and scenic drive back to Rome. Take a well-deserved nap, watch the country fly past or spend the time planning your next visit to Tuscany – because one visit is never enough!
