Overview

Enjoy exclusive access to ancient Christian burial places on a Rome Catacombs After-Hours Tour!

With your Rome Catacombs After-Hours Tour tickets, you’ll explore two unique and popular sets of catacombs in Rome! Built under the city, the catacombs were constructed so Christians could bury their dead, unlike their pagan contemporaries who practiced cremation. There are around 40 Christian catacombs in the city of Rome. And, during the day, these catacombs are filled with visitors. However, during your Rome trip, you can enjoy a guided tour of the catacombs after they have been closed to the public. In an intimate setting, you’ll follow your knowledgeable guide as you’re led through the extensive labyrinth of tunnels and burial grounds. You’ll also learn about the significance of these burial grounds, which were once worshipped by pilgrims. It’s one of the best things to do in Rome!

You’ll start your tour at the Capuchin Crypt. Containing about 4,000 mummified remains of Capuchin friars, the crypt has several small chapels and thousands of human bones decorating its walls and ceilings. You’ll also discover the Capuchin Museum, which has documented Capuchin Order’s achievements and history. Then, head over to the Catacombs of Santa Priscilla and explore its vast network of tunnels. The Catacombs of Santa Priscilla is also important for the Catholics because the oldest known painting of Virgin Mary is found here. So, if you’d like to do something exciting and different during your Rome sightseeing tour, then the Rome Catacombs After-Hours Tour is what to do in Rome!
