Rome, the City of 7 Hills, is famous for its culinary diversity, especially for the simple, but highly versatile "cucina povera" or the "poor man’s cuisine" which is the soul of Roman hospitality. This Roman Food Tour will treat your tastebuds to more than 10 different regional delicacies across an assortment of restaurants and eating joints.
Cozy trattorias and osterias line the city, acting as constant living and dining rooms for the Romans who gather there to eat and drink, gossip and laugh. They say, when in Rome, do what the Romans do and this is something everyone needs to experience for a true taste of the Roman society. We will begin our discovery of the Eternal City with heading to a hidden gem of history in the heart of the city. Almost inconspicuous, walking through the gate instantly transports you to a long lost era and a surprisingly silent and secluded atmosphere nestled amidst the bustle of the city. Friars used to arrive here back in the days to ponder over their life and it is here that we will kick off our culinary trail with a flute of sparkling prosecco.
Our journey also includes one of the oldest family-run restaurants in the city, dating back to 1935. Located in the ancient Jewish ghetto, they are known for their artichoke based dishes as well as their flair with delicacies from the Lazio region in Salumeria and loved by stars like Terence Hill, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson. Sample this quintessential Italian delicacy while learning why the stalk is the most delicious part as well as its heritage of being always popular with the citizens (even Roman legionaries always had them stocked in their field provisions). But don’t worry, there’s more! From pizzas that don’t blush to attempting to pull “phone cords” like a true Roman, trying out two of the most renowned pasta dishes at Agostino and Maria’s family business, and much more - this is a culinary experience that will leave an indelible mark on your love for food!
